State leaders gather public input on Augusta’s economy issues

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus is kicking off the fourth week of their listening tour in Augusta.

The tour has already made seven stops including Roswell, Dawson and LaGrange.

The public was encouraged to ask the House Representatives questions, tell them concerns or offer feedback.

One resident, Vanessa Johnson, asked them about the process to have legislation so that all hospitals could have access to Telehealth care.

She says she felt empowered being able to discuss her concerns.

“I truly do feel like the caucus answered my questions coherently, clearly, and took my concerns into consideration. It felt like we were connected, not just on a local level, but a state and local level just being connected with the citizens and the representatives just being here to hear our voices,” Johnson said.

Harold Jones, State Senator Minority Leader Georgia Senate Democratic Caucus, says they have seen some of the same questions and concerns raised across Georgia.

“I think the questions were great, and the concerns are what you hear across the state. A lot about healthcare and a lot about economic issues, and that’s what you hear across the state. Especially with healthcare, it cuts across the board whether you live in a suburban county like Augusta, rural or even urban areas,” said Jones.

Carolyn Hugley, Minority Leader Georgia House of Representatives, says she feels this will have a positive impact on the community by the time voting season comes around.

“We feel in order to lead you have to listen, so we came to hear the concerns of the people in this area. It’s important for us to hear directly from the people so that when we put together our agenda it responds to the needs that we’ve heard,” Hugley said.

If you were not able to attend this meeting, they will be announcing more stops in the coming weeks.
