Following Georgia Jay’s pregnancy announcement, it won’t be long until her Emmerdale character temporarily leaves the village.
Georgia has played Steph Miligan since November last year. The character is the daughter of Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly).
Earlier this year, Steph was part of a dark and heartbreaking storyline that saw her learn the real connection between her and Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day).
Mum Ruby revealed to Steph that she was sexually abused by her father Anthony when she was a child. A DNA test then confirmed that the evil man is Steph’s biological dad and grandfather.
Why is Georgia Jay leaving Emmerdale?
Star Georgia announced her pregnancy back in June.
Alongside a picture of her cradling her bump, Georgia wrote on Instagram: ‘As you’ve probably guessed, I’ve got some news to share! I know some of you have been wondering if you’ve been seeing a little bump on screen lately… well, it’s not your imagination…I’m having a baby!’.
She added: ‘We’ve never been so excited and a little nervous all at once. Thank you for all the love and support.’
When is Steph Miligan leaving Emmerdale?
According to The Sun, Georgia’s departure scenes as Steph will air in the coming weeks, to tie in with maternity leave.
‘Everyone’s thrilled for Georgia and can’t wait to see her back when she’s ready. Steph’s exit will happen in the next few weeks and see her flee abroad in typically dramatic fashion’, a source told the publication.
‘But with Anthony’s body still out there, there’s a huge storyline still to be wrapped up for when she returns.’
Anthony was murdered by Ruby in January.
The character’s body was disposed of by John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth); however, in April, Steph made a major discovery.

In the woods, Steph made her way to where John claimed he had buried Anthony’s body.
She realised most of the soil was undisturbed, therefore suggesting burial location was somewhere else.
With all eyes on him, John finally revealed that Anthony isn’t buried here after all and he withheld his true burial spot for their own good because they don’t need to know where it is.
