Steven Spielberg Has Finally Acheived an EGOT

Steven Spielberg has become the latest addition to the EGOT club, winning the Best Music FIlm Grammy last night for his work on Music by John Williams. He became the 22nd person to achieve the status.

An EGOT refers to somebody who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award throughout their career. The Grammy was the last award Spielberg needed, already having three Oscars, eleven Emmys, and a Tony Award under his belt.

Spielberg Became The Second-Oldest EGOT Winner Ever

At 79 years old, Spielberg is the second-oldest person to ever accomplish this massive feat. He follows John Geilgud, who was 87 when he won an Emmy and completed his EGOT in 1991. Geilgud was a theater actor and filmmaker best known for starring in countless Shakespeare adaptations alongside legends Laurence Olivier and Ralph Richardson.

Following his win on Sunday night, Spielberg said: “Thank you to all the Grammy voters, whose recognition of Music By John Williams means the world to me.”

Speilberg won his first Oscar in 1994 for Schindler’s List, where he took home awards for Best Picture and Best Director. He repeated the exact same success in 1999 with Saving Private Ryan.

He won his first Emmy award for A Pinky and the Brain Christmas, a festive special for which he served as executive producer. He won further awards for Band of Brothers, Taken, and Animaniacs.

Although Spielberg was not listed among the main recipients of A Strange Loop‘s Tony Award, he technically served as a producer on the Broadway show and received a trophy for his contribution. The production won Best Musical in 2022.

‘Music By John Williams’ Is A Celebration Of Spielberg’s Long-Time Collaborator
