The General Council of National Electoral Institute (INE) left vacant 16 ministries of Local Electoral Public Bodies (Oples) due to lack of consensus for his appointment.
The councilors approved the appointment of the presidency of the Public Local Electoral Body (OPL) of Chiapas, as well as the electoral councils in the OPLs of Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Hidalgo, Nayarit, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.

In an extraordinary session, the president advisor of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei Zavalastressed that the selection and appointment process of OPL seeks to strengthen local electoral authoritiesand that this has not been expeditious or simple, since each stage was designed to filter and select the most suitable profiles. “Citizens who have demonstrated technical merit, specialized knowledge and democratic commitment.”
He reiterated that, for the first time in history, The appointment process was carried out with maximum publicitysince the best evaluated profiles were subjected to deliberation in a public session and broadcast live. “As a collegiate body, the INE recognizes that consensus does not imply unanimity or imposition, but rather the legitimate result of a plural, respectful and public exercise.”
INE is not willing to sacrifice the quality of the electoral process
Taddei Zavala indicated that, facing the 2027 electoral process, The electoral authority is not willing to sacrifice qualityin a hurry. “If the evaluated profiles do not meet the required excellence, the institutional obligation is to act responsibly and ensure the best interest of the country.”

After the verification of requirements, 1,703 applicants advanced to the knowledge examination stage, which was applied by CENEVAL and submitted by 1,563 people. Of them, 521 applicants -250 women, 265 men and 6 non-binary people- passed this phase and continued with the next stages of the process, which included essays, management skills tests, psychological evaluations and interviews, culminating with 117 selected people who met all the established requirements.
In this sense, Montaño Ventura added: “This brief account allows me to highlight the legitimacy and trust that citizens place in this authority.”

Likewise, he called on the appointed councilors to carry out their function in strict accordance with the law and the guiding principles of the electoral function, remembering that local institutes are “essential for the democratic life of the country” and that their technical experience should not be minimized in the context of an eventual electoral reform.

After the vote of the General Council of the INE, 16 women, 12 men, and 16 councils were declared deserted.
