The Duffer brothers are beyond excited for fans to experience Stranger Things like never before. The two-hour Season 5 Part 2 finale, marking the official end of the Netflix series, will premiere in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada.
Fans can choose to watch the finale in one of 350 theater locations or at home, as the theater version will coincide with the streaming release on Netflix. The event begins Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, coinciding with the global Netflix premiere, and will continue through Jan. 1, 2026.
Die-hard fans of Stranger Things would know that the Duffer brothers have been fighting for a theatrical release for some time. Netflix chief creative officer Bela Bajaria has previously shut down the idea, claiming that releasing the finale on the streaming platform is “giving fans what they want.”
The Stranger Things creators are ending the beloved series with a bang and are excited to share the grand moment with fans going into the New Year.
“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen,” they said in a joint statement.
“Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
Season 5 brings back the beloved main characters, minus Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), and picks up in 1987. Hawkins is still reeling from the events in the prior season and is now under military occupation.
The final season is divided into two parts, with Volume 1 premiering on Nov. 26 right before the Thanksgiving holidays. It will consist of four episodes with runtimes going over or slightly under an hour.
Volume 2 will consist of the final three episodes premiering on Christmas Day, with the finale airing on the 31st.
