Struggling Sundowns star set to leave the club in January

A Mamelodi Sundowns defender appears to be heading for the exit door in January.

Given the plethora of talent at the club, it’s always difficult for a fringe player to get his chance.

And that’s exactly the case for 24-year-old defender Kegan Johannes.

The right-back is yet to play this season, and has just one ‘bench’ appearance to show for himself thus far.

Johannes was reportedly deemed surplus to requirements by Miguel Cardoso at the beginning of the season.

Mamelodi Sundowns were then looking for a club for him to join. Siwelele FC appeared to have won the race to sign Johannes, however the deal fell through right before the transfer window shut close.

Injuries to Thapelo Morena and Zuko Mdunyelwa then gave Johannes a glimmer of hope at Chloorkop.

However, new reports suggest Mamelodi Sundowns are still keen on offloading the wing-back in January!

“With January transfer window fast approaching, all indications suggest that another move could be on the cards as Johannes looks to revive his career elsewhere,” a Citizen report read.

The talented full-back joined Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of last season from Supersport United.

He has managed to make just six appearances for the Brazilians’. In total, he has 78 top-flight appearances to his name.
