A fictional executive on the board of Waystar Royco in Succession has become the latest celebrity to leave the US for a life across the pond.

Former chat show host Ellen DeGeneres, 67, and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, moved to the Cotswolds in November 2024 because of President Donald Trump

And comedian Rosie O’Donnell, 63, relocated to Ireland earlier this year with her son, stating she’d consider returning when it was ‘safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America’.

Now, Succession star Fisher Stevens has also announced his move.

Stevens, 61, played Hugo Baker in the hit HBO drama, alongside Brian Cox and Sarah Snook. The actor and documentary maker has two children aged 12 and nine with his wife Alexis Bloom.

He told People that together they decided ‘it was time to get out of the US for a minute, see what it’s like in Europe and the UK.’

Fisher added that he’s enjoying it here: ‘It’s pretty nice!

‘My wife [Alexis Bloom] and I make documentaries, so there are a couple things we’re working out on there, and my wife’s parents live in London too, so that’s been good.’

As well as acting in Succession, the star makes documentaries and recently directed the Beckham documentaries on Netflix

A decade ago, Fisher directed the documentary film Before the Flood for National Geographic, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and explores the impact of climate change on the environment.

In the 90-minute programme, DiCaprio speaks with the likes of Elon Musk, Barack Obama, and Pope Francis.

When talking about his move to the UK, Fisher mentioned the documentary, arguing that despite major corporations telling them that they would farm more sustainably, things haven’t become any better.

Although Stevens didn’t specify if his move was down to the state of US politics, he said: ‘Knowing that the Trump administration is very heavily funded by the fossil fuels…

‘I mean, the Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright is a former oil executive who refuses to [make change].

‘He says, “Oh yeah, the climate is changing…” But this administration is doing everything it can to not be responsible citizens for the world.’

Which celebrities have left the US in recent years?

The following celebrities have left America recently for a life overseas…

  • Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi moved to the Cotswolds in response to Trump’s re-election.
  • Rosie O’Donnell made the switch to Ireland with her son and said she’d consider returning ‘when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America’.
  • Eva Longoria has been splitting time between Spain and Mexico for work purposes, specifying it’s not because of the election.
  • Lily Collins made the move to Copenhagen in 2023, according to Vogue, where said life is ‘so calm and bright’.
  • Pamela Anderson moved back to Vancouver Island in Canada 2020 where she was born and raised.
  • Amber Heard relocated to Madrid, Spain, shortly after her defamation trial with Johnny Depp. She was previously seen saying she ‘loves’ the country.

Stevens also produced We Are Guardians – a documentary which follows indigenous forest guardians of the Amazon as they try to protect their lands – which is now streaming on Netflix.

He said it was important, now more than ever, to be shining a light on these stories.

All four seasons of Succession are available to watch through Sky and NOW.
