Although it seems like Superman just hit theaters, the new DC mega-hit already has a sequel movie coming. Now, we’re not talking about the 2026 release of Supergirl, but rather, a direct sequel to Superman, a movie that James Gunn has just revealed will hit theaters in exactly two years.
On Instagram on Wednesday, September 3, Gunn — the head of DC Studios and director of Superman — dropped the title and the release date for the Superman sequel. Here’s what we know.
Superman 2 is called Man of Tomorrow
The next Superman movie will simply be called Man of Tomorrow. Like “The Man of Steel” or “The Last Son of Krypton,” this is one of Kal-El’s many sobriquets. It refers to the idea that Superman can lead us into a better ideal in the future.
Gunn didn’t post a photo from the upcoming movie, but instead, a piece of comic book art from artist Jim Lee. The art seems to depict Lex Luthor in his famous comic book Warsuit, next to Superman, cheekily holding a screwdriver. Superman is going to screw over Lex, right?
Man of Tomorrow release date
Warner Bros./DC Studios
The Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, will hit theaters on July 9, 2027. This will put its release date exactly two years after Superman hit theaters this past summer. This also puts Man of Tomorrow in theaters a few months after the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars movie, Starfighter, which hits theaters on May 28, 2027.
Next summer, Supergirl will hit theaters on June 26, 2026. David Corenswet’s Superman is expected to appear in that film, just as Milly Alcock appeared in Superman.
Superman is currently available as VOD at home.
