Being a “Bond Girl” can propel an actress into iconic status, so who better than Sydney Sweeney to entertain it?
However, is she really considering it? Does Sweeney want to be a “Bond Girl” and will she star in the new James Bond movie?
The actress responded to those questions in a new interview with Variety. She was at the Toronto International Film Festival. Sweeney also opened up about fame in that interview, telling Variety, “I am definitely a caged animal in a sense. Acting is my ring. It’s where I feel freedom. The set is where everything else goes quiet.”
Sydney Sweeney Didn’t Shut the Door on Playing a ‘Bond Girl’
In the interview with Variety, Sweeney didn’t shut the door on playing the role. But she said she’d rather play Bond himself, and it would depend on the script.
Variety asked Sweeney about rumors that Jeff Bezos wants her to play the “Bond Girl” role, and she responded in a contradictory way.
“I can’t. I don’t know. To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she told Variety, pausing twice while giving the answer.
Variety pressed on, asking Sweeney whether she would ever be interested in playing the role.

“Depends on the script,” she told the site. “I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”
However, it’s no sure thing. “I tend to gravitate towards characters that are stereotypically unlikable, and I like to challenge an audience to have empathy for that person,” Sweeney said in the interview, which is a description that obviously doesn’t fit the “Bond Girl” stereotype.
The interview was wide-ranging as Sweeney also opened up about everything from being asked to get Botox at age 16 to her changing physical appearance.
“I’ve never gotten anything done. I’m absolutely terrified of needles. No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully,” she told the site. “It’s really funny. I’ll see things online like ‘comparison pictures.’ I’m like, ‘I’m 12 in that photo. Of course I’m going to look different. I have makeup on now and I’m 15 years older.’”
What’s Known About the New James Bond Movie
There isn’t a lot known about the new James Bond movie so far. Most notably, the casting decisions are not yet clear, not only who will play the iconic “Bond Girl” role (if there is one), but also who will play James Bond himself.
The director is known, though, and that selection could provide clues about the direction he will take the storied franchise.
That’s because director Denis Villeneuve named Casino Royaleas a favorite Bond film. That movie pioneered Daniel Craig’s rougher-around-the-edges version of Bond as a blunt physical instrument in contrast to the suave persona of, say, Pierce Brosnan.
As many as a dozen actors have been rumored to be the next James Bond, including some big names and lesser-known actors. They range from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Callum Turner.
