At first, versions circulated that spoke of a possible crime of passion, but the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) He denied that hypothesis just a few days later.
Prosecutor Bernardo Rodríguez Alamilla confirmed that the main suspect was one of the students: “So far, our main line of investigation has to do with a problem within the institution with a student. It is an issue of a grade.”
The young man, already identified, is wanted throughout the region through an operation. According to investigations, he would have argued with the teacher over a failing grade and, not accepting the result, planned the attack.
The authorities announced that same afternoon in a statement that the investigation was carried out with a “gender perspective after learning of the death of a female person in Putla Villa de Guerrero” and in coordination with the security forces of the three levels of Government.
Fabiola, a dedicated teacher
Fabiola Ortiz Medina, 39 years old and a graduate in Psychology, had been dedicated to teaching for more than a decade. Her colleagues remember her as “a patient, demanding and deeply empathetic woman” who was committed to her students and the community.
On October 17, Cobao Plantel 06 opened its doors to pay tribute to him. On the center court, teachers and students gathered to place flowers, photographs and messages in his memory, accompanying the coffin.
“He dedicated his life to teaching and inspiring,” one professor said into the microphone. “It is difficult for us to imagine the classroom without his laughter,” said student Iliana, with tears.
The General Director of Cobao, Angélica García Pérez, and the Single Union of Cobao Workers (Sutcobao) condemned the murder and demanded justice.
Fabiola’s case adds to a worrying figure: more than 70 women murdered in Oaxaca during 2025. The entity is among the states with the highest feminicidal violence in the country.
The campus remains under reinforced security measures, and the students assure that the best way to honor her will be to continue studying with respect, effort and empathy, as she taught them.
