‘Ted Lasso’ Star Brett Goldstein Finally Speaks on Jennifer Lopez Dating Rumors

Since the hit series Ted Lasso debuted on Apple TV+ in 2020, it’s hard to argue that any actor from the show has seen a more meteoric rise in popularity than Brett Goldstein. The actor who portrays player-turned-coach Roy Kent has a personality that fans love and is the ideal fit for his role. Goldstein has been in plenty of movies and shows prior to Ted Lasso, but his work on the popular show deserves its own specific tip of the cap.

Goldstein, who went on to join Shrinking in Season 2 as Lewis, was already a co-creator and executive producer for the show, but was excellent in playing the role of Lewis. While he has plenty of work on his plate, the 45-year-old actor is also set to star alongside Jennifer Lopez in the Netflix rom-com Office Romance, which he also co-wrote.

As we’ve seen so many times involving stars who are teaming up for a movie involving romance, there have been some swirling rumors about a potential off-screen link between Goldstein and Lopez. The Ted Lasso star was asked about this by InStyle magazine during a recent interview, and brushed the rumors aside, while also offering Lopez a compliment in the process.

“Yeah, that sort of thing isn’t my favorite,” he says slowly. “It’s near impossible, but, ideally, you just don’t look at any of that stuff because it will make you very uncomfortable. And maybe I should just be flattered that anyone could think that that would be a thing, you know what I mean?”

It’s a fair response from Goldstein, although it obviously doesn’t address the topic head-on. Regardless, it doesn’t sound like he and Lopez have a real-life romance brewing, although it’ll have to remain anyone’s guess for the time being.

Goldstein Calls ‘Ted Lasso’ Character Roy Kent His ‘Soulmate’

Among the topics that came up during the interview with InStyle was a question regarding soulmates. Goldstein was asked if he believes in soulmates, a topic he mentions in his stand-up comedy special, as highlighted by the site. After deliberating a bit on it, Goldstein found a good answer that turned out to be great.

“Do I believe in soulmates?” Goldstein sits back and considers the question. “I change my mind. I honestly don’t know. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I’m not sure there’s one person for everyone. I think there’s 50 people for everyone. I think in your lifetime there are probably 50 people that you should have met. That doesn’t mean you’ll have sex with, but there’s some karmic connection, over millennia. You know what I mean?”

Then he came up with two soulmates—Roy Kent, his character in Ted Lasso, and also his All of You co-star, Imogen Poots.

“Roy was a soulmate of a role,” he says.

“I had it with f—ing Imogen, in the film,” he explains. “The film lives and dies on the gap between the two of us. I didn’t know Imogen; I had never met Imogen. And we had a Zoom, and within five minutes, I honestly felt like I’d known her forever. She felt like an old friend, and that’s what these characters are. So I was like, ‘That’s gotta be it.’ And it was easy–I knew we had to build chemistry to do this. [But] we didn’t have to do anything, it just was there. It was magic.”

Goldstein is slated to return as Roy Kent in Season 4 of Ted Lasso, which began filming in July of this year. While the release date hasn’t been confirmed, many have cited a mid-2026 return for the hit series.
