The Best Joke In the ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Premiere Is Actually a DC Deep-Cut

The first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 sets up a brand new story for John Cena’s hilarious assassin, but this show is also packed with a ton of Easter eggs and references to the larger DC universe. Yes, the show begins with a “previously on” segment that retroactively puts Peacemaker into the same canon as the new Superman movie. (You’re not hallucinating, John Cena did not meet Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern three years ago, that’s a new “flashback.)

But, perhaps the deepest cut of all was a quick joke at the start of the episode, which actually introduced a deep cut DC hero, very, very briefly. Mild spoilers ahead for Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 1.

Who is White Rabbit?

When Peacemaker goes in for an interview with the Justice Gang, we get an extended scene featuring Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), all reprising their roles from the recent Superman movie. But, as Peacemaker enters the rundown spot where the interview is happening, a woman dressed in a bunny costume is leaving the building, crying.

It’s a quick visual gag; the idea that superheroes who are even more ridiculous than Peacemaker are trying to get into the Justice Gang. But, as the credits make clear, this character is called White Rabbit, and that means she’s likely really called Jaina Hudson. In DC Comics, White Rabbit is often a criminal from Gotham City who sometimes fights on the side of good. In this brief cameo, she was played by singer and model Brey Noelle.

On Instagram, Noelle posted a behind-the-scenes snap of herself on the set of Peacemaker on Friday, the day after the episode hit HBO Max.

How many other DC characters will appear in Peacemaker Season 2?

In addition to White Rabbit, Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) and the Justice Gang members in Episode 1, it’s unclear how many more characters from DC will pop up throughout the rest of Peacemaker Season 2. That said, Men’s Journal has seen the first five episodes of the season, and it’s safe to say, yes, there are a few more cameos coming. But saying who those people are would be a spoiler!

Peacemaker Season 2 streams on HBO Max.
