Paul Mescal fans, your moment has arrived. Ever dreamed of bumping into him on the Southbank? Because now’s your chance. The BFI (British Film Institute) London Film Festival is back this October, bringing a little slice of Hollywood to the capital.
Here’s the best bit: If you’re under 25, you can grab tickets for just £6 with a free “BFI 25 and Under” account. Yep, that means students can catch Daniel Craig, Emma Stone, and Paul Mescal for less than the cost of a pint in London. It’s running from Wednesday 8th October to Sunday 19th October.
The festival kicks off with Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, starring Daniel Craig as the elusive detective Benoit Blanc.
In the third edition of the hit Netflix franchise, he’s joined by Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, and Glenn Close. Who wouldn’t want to see Fleabag’s Hot Priest and James Bond in the same room?
For Paul Mescal lovers amongst us, lookalike contests are about to become a thing of the past.
Hamnet, directed by Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao, will see Mescal alongside Jessie Buckley in an Irish dream-team, retelling the story of Shakespeare’s family.
Time to dust off your Connell-inspired silver chain; a premiere is calling.
After that American Eagle drama, Sydney Sweeney is swapping jeans for some boxing gloves, playing queer boxing champ Christy Martin in the biopic Christy. Billed as her most unrecognisable role to date, Sweeney’s uppercuts might just land her a spot in the Oscars race.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. Fresh off Poor Things, Emma Stone reunites with Yorgos Lanthimos for the fourth time in Bugonia.
If it’s anything like his usual work, expect an artistic masterpiece and plenty of “what did I just watch?” moments.
For the Bruce Springsteen super-fans (or maybe just fans of The Bear), Jeremy Allen White is stepping into the shoes of New Jersey’s beloved rockstar in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. If he knows Born in the USA as well as he knows Calvin Klein billboards, this film is bound to be a hit.
Daniel Day-Lewis is back too. In the exclusive Screen Talks series, alongside Chloe Zhao and Yorgos Lanthimos, you can catch him chatting about their latest work. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear from cinema legends. Who knows? You might hear a story that will inspire your big break into Hollywood.
The 69th BFI London Film Festival runs from Wednesday 8th October to Sunday 19th October.
In a utopian world where you are closer to Paul Mescal than your seminar group, why not soak up some Hollywood glitz and glamour – all without breaking the bank of your student budget?
