The Blind Side actor Quinton Aaron has reportedly been hospitalised following a fall at his home.
The 41-year-old is said to have been taken to hospital in Georgia, Atlanta, and is receiving ‘excellent’ care, according to a statement from his manager.
Aaron, who played college footballer Michael Oher in the 2009 sports biopic alongside Sandra Bullock, is reportedly battling a ‘severe blood infection’, according to a GoFundMe page set up over the weekend.
The page, which is aiming to raise $10,000 to cover Aaron’s medical bills and his family’s expenses, has been made by the Veterans Aid Network.
A manager for the actor told TMZ that he had been walking up the stairs in his apartment last week when his legs ‘suddenly stopped functioning’, resulting in his sudden collapse.
Aaron’s manager Katrina Fristoe said he is ‘receiving excellent medical care’ and is with family, in a statement to the Daily Mail.
The statement added that an update will be shared once he is in a better condition: ‘The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of support from fans and the media but respectfully requests privacy during this time.’
It comes after Aaron last year showcased his dramatic 200-pound weight loss, amid a series of health battles.
The GoFundMe in Aaron’s name has currently raised over $1,000, with 36 donations at the time of publication. The description claims that the actor is on ‘life support’, adding: ‘This has been sudden, frightening, and overwhelming for his loved ones.
‘As he fights for his life, his family is facing an immense emotional and financial burden — medical expenses, living costs, and the uncertainty of how long this road to recovery may be.
‘When someone is this critically ill, life doesn’t pause. Bills don’t stop. Expenses continue to pile up. And no family should have to choose between focusing on their loved one’s survival and worrying about how they will make it through financially.’
The Oscar-winning film which Aaron is best known for hit the headlines in 2023 after the real former NFL player Michael Oher filed a petition at a Tennessee court, claiming that Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy – played by Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw in the film adaptation – placed him under a conservatorship, rather than adopting him, and enriched themselves at his expense.
Oher asked that the conservatorship be terminated and also requested a full accounting of the money earned from the use of his name and story.
The film was nominated for two Academy Awards in 2010: best picture and best actress for Bullock, which she won.
Metro contacted Aaron’s representatives for further comment.
