This phenomenon allows the entry of products from abroad, where prices are lower, without the corresponding payment of taxes. Such a situation occurs mainly in customs, where the participation of officials from those agencies in charge of collecting import duties is presumed, to the direct detriment of the Nation.
According to recent reports, this problem has persisted for the last seven years, especially in northern Mexico, where customs agencies have been blamed for the irregular entry of gasoline, diesel, oils and naphtha. The main areas where this practice has been detected are Matamoros, Reynosa, Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juárez and Mexicali.
The National Customs Agency of Mexico (ANAM) has denounced the illegal entry of 3 million 485 thousand liters of hydrocarbons, with a value of more than 31 million pesos.
Customs have historically represented a serious problem for Mexican governments, due to persistent corruption within them. It has been documented that during the previous six-year term, the fiscal huachicol occurred on at least 50 occasions, and in the current administration no less than 16 cases are estimated.
The customs issue in Mexico requires immediate and deep attention, since even the Secretary of the Navy, currently in charge of its supervision, has not achieved the expected results.
Eradicating corruption is not an easy task. Smuggling has existed historically and customs agents, stevedores, individuals and even private companies participate in it. Mexico has lived for decades under this problem without finding a definitive solution.
For this reason, an institutional and moral cleanliness is essential that contributes to the strengthening of the national economy and the rescue of public values for the benefit of the Country.
