The heartbreaking final posts Felix Baumgartner made hours before paragliding accident death

Felix Baumgartner shared a series of posts on his Instagram just hours before his tragic death in a paragliding accident. Felix is best known for his record-breaking skydive from the edge of space. Today, it’s been announced he has died, aged 56.

Local police have said he died in a paragliding incident, after he lost control of his motorised paraglider whilst flying over Porto Sant’Elpidio, in Italy’s central Marche region. It’s been reported he fell to the ground near the swimming pool of a hotel, after suffering a “sudden medical issue” in the air. His death is reported to have happened yesterday (July 17th).

The local mayor, Mayor Massimiliano Ciarpella, said in a statement: “Our community is deeply affected by the tragic disappearance of Felix Baumgartner, a figure of global prominence, a symbol of courage and passion for extreme flight.”

Just hours before his death, Felix Baumgartner shared a number of Instagram posts, tragically about the paraglide he was about to go on.

He shared a picture and a video of himself meeting a girl called Emily, who has been reported as being a fan of his. “So proud of you Emily,” was the caption. He then shared a photo ahead of the paraglide that noted there was “too much wind.” He added the song Sit and Wait.

On his main Instagram feed, Felix shared a further video of him getting the motor of his paraglider ready. He wrote in the caption: “Man At Work.” This was also posted on the day of his death.

The comment section of his last post is now filled with heartfelt tributes and people expressing their shock and disbelief at what has happened. “You are an inspiration. Rest in peace,” one said. Another added: “Today is a sad day. Rest in peace legend.”
