During Squid Game season three, there were a number of cameos. From beyond the grave, Thanos came back. As did Player 067, in emotional scenes with Gi-hun. There was a brief moment with season one’s old man, Il-nam, but it was just his voice – the actor didn’t return fully in the Squid Game episode.
In the Squid Game finale, we finally saw some more of The Front Man’s backstory. During this, we saw that when he had competed, Oh Il-nam, who was the mastermind of the games, had told him to kill everyone in the dorm as they slept. He then had. The Front Man then gave the same advice to Gi-hun, but a vision of Player 067 told him not to do it.
In the moment between The Front Man and Oh Il-nam, also known as season one’s Player 001 or just “the old man”, he was in a mask, as one of the VIPs. This is because O Yeong-su, who played him, didn’t return. It was just his voice, and a stand in.

This is because last year, the actor was found guilty of sexual misconduct. As his trial began in February 2023, he admitted: “I am sorry. I think I behaved badly.”
He was on trial for inappropriately touching a young actress whilst the two were on tour for a play in 2017. The police report said he had attempted to hug the woman by force, and kissed her on the cheek while they went out for a stroll together. He admitted he held the victim’s hand, but denied there was any indecent assault.
In March 2024, it was confirmed O Yeong-Su had been found guilty. He was given an eight-month suspended prison sentence, and ordered to attend classes on sexual violence.
At the time, it was said he planned to appeal against the verdict. No update on this has been reported.
