The new president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, reestablishes diplomatic relations with the United States after 17 years of rupture

He President-elect of Ecuador, Rodrigo Paz, announced this Monday his intention to restore diplomatic relations with the United States after 17 years of breakup marked by the governments of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) of Evo Morales and Luis Arce.

“That relationship is going to be resumed and the conditions of relations between nations involve cooperation in the fight against what we consider is not part of the law,” he explained during his first press conference after the second round of the presidential elections held this Sunday.

When he takes office, Paz will seek to position the country before the world after 20 years of “absolute failure” of MAS management.

“I believe that we are going to have a fluid relationship and commitments of cooperation and joint work for both nations and of benefit to both nations,” he said.

For his part, the North American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has already congratulated Paz, to whom he offered a new stage of bilateral cooperation based on shared strategic interests.

The new elected president of Ecuador has also announced the launch of a “new economic model” for the country that will consist of the export liberalization and in collaboration with “friendly countries” to try to resolve the lack of fuel that plagues the country.

Paz proposes for his Government an economic model called “50/50”, based on the tax redistributionbetween the central level of State, autonomous territorial entities and public universities, and seeks to decentralize public resources.

In addition to resuming diplomatic relations with the United States, Paz will also seek to open a new stage of dialogue with Chile, while promising transparency in the agreements signed by the outgoing Government with Russia and China regarding lithium.

Another measure that will be implemented is the “capitalism for all”, which consists of promoting cheap credit for production and commerce, a single tax below 10% and? tariffs are reduced to a minimum.

Paz’s victory in the elections marks the end of a political cycle of leftist ideology began in 2006 with the arrival of Evo Morales to power and continued by Luis Arce, whose mandate will officially end on November 8, when Paz assumes the Presidency.

The Arce Government has been harshly criticized for the crisis that has been experienced in the country since the beginning of 2023 due to the lack of dollars, fuel shortages and accumulated inflation of 16.92%.
