The Next James Bond TV Installment Starts Streaming This Week

While the world waits for the next cinematic face of James Bond, ordinary, everyday people are about to embark upon Bond-like adventures. The reality TV series, 007: Road to a Million, returns for Season 2 this week and will feature all-new death-defying stunts and physical feats performed by folks who very much do not have a licence to kill.

Here’s what to know about 007: Road to a Million, including the release date and which 007 movies the contestants are reliving.

The reality-based adventure series, 007: Road to a Million, focuses on nine teams, each consisting of two people. It’s similar to The Amazing Race, but here, the competitors are reenacting versions of stunts performed in Bond movies. Only one team can win the titular $1 million dollar prize.

The show is hosted by Brian Cox as “The Controller,” a kind of mashup between a real Bond villain, but also, kind of like M, Bond’s boss. In this season, The Controller will be aided by the mysterious Sofia, played by Frances McNamee.

Which Bond movies will be recreated in 007: Road to a Million Season 2?

According to press releases from Amazon, Season 2 will be even more action-packed than Season 1:

“This time around, eight pairs of ordinary people embark on a thrilling 007-inspired global adventure which takes them from Bangkok’s Sinn Sathorn Tower to shark-infested waters in the Bahamas. They face epic challenges testing skills and relationships, including facing live scorpions in Thailand, firing guns in an historic Hacienda in Mexico, and braving dizzying Alpine cable cars.”

So, the “dizzying Alpine cable cars” references a cable car fight between Bond (Roger Moore), Dr. Holly Goodhead (Lois Chiles), and Jaws (Richard Kiel) in the 1979 movie Moonraker. In that film, the cable cars were in Rio de Janeiro. However, the Alpine area references 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and the cable car idea was originally going to be in the climax of that movie

The “live scorpions in Thailand” could reference several Bond movies, including Diamonds are Forever (1971), but is probably most connected to Skyfall (2012) in which Bond (Daniel Craig) does shots with a scorpion on his hand.

Those “shark-infested waters in the Bahamas” is almost certainly a reference to Bond (Sean Connery) battling sharks in the watery classic, Thunderball in 1965.

Finally, as the trailer reveals, it looks like the famous bungee jump done by Bond (Pierce Brosnan) at the start of GoldenEye (1995) will also be recreated.

When does 007: Road to a Million Season 2 start streaming?

The release date for 007: Road to a Million Season 2 is Friday, August 22. The show streams on Prime Video. It will consist of eight episodes.
