The number of deaths due to heavy rains in five states of Mexico increases to 78


This Wednesday morning, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reported that the number of people killed by the heavy rains and severe flooding that affected five states of the country rose to 78, while another 23 remain missing.

At a press conference, the President showed the official site that accumulates statistics for these meteorological phenomena, which indicates that The most affected state is Veracruz with 35 deaths and 11 people who have not yet been located, followed by Hidalgo, with 22 deaths and 8 missing; Puebla with 20 deaths and 4 missing people, and Querétaro with one death.

Sheinbaum reported that starting this day the delivery of aid to families affected by the consequences of the rains and floods will begin.

“Today it begins in Veracruz, in Puebla, in Querétaro and in San Luis Potosí, and on Sunday it begins in Hidalgo, because it is the state that still has the most locations that have not been accessible by land”explained the Mexican ruler.

He pointed out that the aid will be given “directly” when the daily census of each affected municipality is finished.

“When the census is finished, they are left with a headband that has a number and is identified with the name of the person who is the head of the family. Then, with that headband they go to the welfare module and there they are given (…) a coupon for one pantry or for two pantries and for household goods,” he explained.

The financial aid to those affected will range from 20 thousand pesos per family (1 thousand 87 dollars), up to 50 thousand pesos (2 thousand 718 dollars) to businesses, between 50 thousand and 100 thousand pesos (2 thousand 718 and 5 thousand 453 dollars) for fields and livestock, 150 pesos (8.15 dollars) in school supplies and 500 thousand pesos (27 thousand 178 dollars) for reconstruction of clinics.

The Mexican Government announced on Monday a national reconstruction plan in which 10 billion pesos (543.6 million dollars) will be invested.

According to the information, more than 52 thousand people participate in the relief efforts among the Armed Forces, the Federal Government, state authorities and volunteers.

This Wednesday, Jesús Esteva, Secretary of Communications and Transportation, pointed out that 195 of 288 roads are already clear and 99.38% of electrical energy services have been restored.

The Government specified that extraordinary rains hit five states of the country between October 7 and 11, 2025.
