The One Thing Everyone Missed in the Action-Packed ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’ Trailer

Baby Yoda and his bounty hunter dad are back! The first public trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released by Lucasfilm, roughly five months after fans at Star Wars Celebration Japan were first treated to footage from the movie. As the first Star Wars feature film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, there’s a decent amount of pressure ridingon this film. Full of familiar Star Wars thrills, the first trailer for The Mandalorian and Groguseems to play the hits from the popular Disney+ TV series, but also delivers on the promise that, eventually, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu would be recruited by the New Republic, AKA, the former Rebel Alliance.

The new trailer gives us just that: Mando appears to be recruited by Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) of the New Republic, while he and Grogu take the fight to the Imperial Remnant, including taking down some of those famous AT-AT walkers. But what’s Mando driving? And wait, is that Cassian Andor’s old ride?

The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer

On Monday, September 22, Lucasfilm revealed the full trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu. True to the spirit of the TV series The Mandalorian, the trailer contains almost no dialogue. Mando (Pedro Pascal) himself only says one word: “Impressive.” And later, after Grogu dispatches an enemy, a little Anzellan alien says: “Good shot, baby.” But that’s it.

However, because Mando and Grogu meet Col. Ward (Weaver) and are fighting Imperial forces, it stands to reason their mission has something to do with the Imperial Remnant. For eagle-eyed fans, there’s also a glimpse of Zeb, a character from the animated series Star Wars: Rebels, fighting some baddies with an electrostaff. We also see the buff Rotta the Hutt, a space gangster set to be voiced by Jeremy Allen White.

Starship Easter eggs in Mandalorian & Grogu trailer

In addition to the fact that Mando is back flying his traditional Razor Crest-style ship, there’s also another deep cut in the trailer that connects to a totally different Star Wars series. At one point, we see Mando using his jetpack to fly to a Rebe Alliance U-wing, the exact same kind used by Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in Andor Season 2 and throughout Rogue One. While it’s super unlikely, this is the same U-wing; it’s still interesting that this style of ship is in the Mando movie, alongside the newly rebooted Razor Crest.

For those who forgot, Mando’s first Razor Crest starship was destroyed in Season of The Mandalorian, which is why, in Season 3, he was flying an old N-1 starfighter. So, when does he get his old ship back? And how? And if Mando can get a new Razor Crest, could that U-wing somehow be the same one that Andor flew?

The Mandalorian and Grogu will likely not answer all of these super-nerdy starship questions, but if we’re lucky, this trailer is just a fraction of the awesome space battles we’ll see in the entire movie.

The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
