The President reveals document confirming Levy’s arrest

Simón Levy has dual nationality, which is why he was released by the Portuguese authorities after his arrest. However, President Sheinbaum explained, she cannot leave that country.

Mexico City, October 30 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented this Thursday a new document official issued by the authorities of Portugal confirming the arrest of Simon Levy, former official federal and Mexico City (CdMx).

The writing, dated in the city of Lisboaconfirms that the exservidor public was arrested by the Portuguese police when he entered the territory of this country, in compliance with an international arrest warrant issued by the Interpol.

“Citizen Simón ‘N’ was detained on October 28, 2025 upon entering national territory by virtue of an international arrest warrant, having been presented before the Court of Appeal of Lisbon,” states the email read by the president.

The President Sheinbaum explained that Simón Levy was arrested in Portugal and presented to the authorities of that country, however, because he has dual nationality, Mexican and a European country, he was released but will not be able to leave the country.

“It is true that they detained him and in reality the one who was not in Portugal, but rather in Washington, was missing the truth,” the president stressed during her morning conference from the National Palace.

According to information revealed by the president, there are two arrest warrants against Simón Levy derived from investigation files opened by the CdMx Prosecutor’s Office in the years 2021 and 2022; one filed by an individual due to an attack and the second for the construction of apartments of more than one environmental violation that occurred due to an irregularity.

Given the statements made by Simón Levy in different interviews that his arrest in Portugal is a “political persecution”, President Sheinbaum dismissed these accusations and pointed out that the Prosecutor’s Office must explain why the arrest took place until now.

“I was not aware that he had arrest warrants or that there were current arrest warrants derived from those events in 2021 and 2022 (…) And it has nothing to do with a political matter or anything, but simply two investigation folders that had existed since that time,” he indicated.
