The relaunch of the PAN and the mystery of the Headless Horseman

For practical purposes, the president of the National Action Party (PAN), Jorge Romero Herrera, does not understand that he does not understand. The relaunch or refoundation of a political party has nothing to do with likes o followers much less with a “brand relaunch or repositioning” suggested by some clueless genius from a law firm. marketing that got in their way. A political party cannot be treated like a soda can, a video game or a cell phone. In politics form is substance and timing It’s everything.

But that is something that Jorgito does not understand and will never understand…

Last Saturday, on Paseo de la Reforma and in the vicinity of the column of the Angel of Independence and the Monument of the Revolution, a bizarre dichotomy was experienced: the participants of the zombie march and the PAN members who attended the supposed relaunch of their party agreed on these three points. The former went out to take to the streets for fun and the latter to (according to them) capture the leaders who know the people’s causes. When the time came, the living dead and the political dead intermingled with each other. It was not known who some were and who others were.

And, like the Morenistas, the PAN members went against their favorite villain: the PRI member Alejandro Alito Dark. According to them, the partisan alliances with the tricolors are over (well… not completely), since they have only brought them defeats. But yes, in the dark they already began to make rinses with the Citizen Movement scabs, because of that don’t get upset. And, to take advantage, they returned to the “homeland, family and freedom!”, which in 1939 was coined by its founder, Manuel Gómez Morín, whom they had completely forgotten.

Gentlemen PAN members, to re-found a political party you need something more than a change of logo.

The PAN and Romero say that (now yes, deveras, deveritas) they are going to open themselves to the citizens and that is why (now yes, deveras, deveritas) they invite them to join and promise that (now yes, deveras, deveritas) they are going to become the most open and transparent party in Mexico with primary elections, polls and the vote of the militancy… just like Morena.

The promise of a “new” PAN is not bad. On the contrary. It is good for Mexican politics and also for the blue and whites themselves. However, to provide it with legitimacy they have to look at their true leaders, people with specific weight within this party, like Enrique Vargas, Germán Martínez or Damián Zepeda, because it has already become clear that with Jorge Romero, Marko Cortés and Kenia López they are not going to get anywhere. But they also need to resort to self-reflection and exercise self-criticism, because their crises are not the fault of their alliances with the PRI of Alito Moreno.

To begin with, they should accept that the PAN that won the presidency of the Republic in 2000, with Vicente Fox Quesada, no longer exists and that the Mexico that brought Vicente Fox to the presidency of the Republic in 2000 does not exist anymore and that, today, the PAN is a horse ridden by a headless rider.

It’s that simple.
