Three parishes, in the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez, Monção and Macedo de Cavaleiros, had to repeat voting this Sunday for the local elections due to ties recorded on October 12th. These were the results in each of them.
Arks
The PSD/CDS-PP candidate was relieved with his election as president of the parish council of Arcas, Macedo de Cavaleiros, but considers that in places like his there should be a single and united list.
“It doesn’t make sense in villages as small as ours to have this duality, these two lists, and I think that a common list will increasingly have to be formed, a single list, where there is consensus”, Mickael Silva told Lusa, who confessed to feeling “relief” with the election and that now it is time “for the warrior to rest”.
The mayor said he had also spoken to the candidate and competitor Ana Martins so that just one list could be formed, but both had already been approached by the parties and, therefore, “it was not possible”.
Mickael Silva beat the PS candidate and current president of the board, Ana Martins, by 19 votes. She got 53.54% of the votes, while the socialist got 45.13%. In the 2021 elections, the result was the opposite — Ana Martins won over Mickael Silva.
The two candidates went to elections this Sunday, after having received the same votes on October 12th, 100 each. The general tabulation assembly analyzed the ballots and took one vote from each one, but the tie remained.
The parish of Arcas, in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, has 338 voters, with the abstention rate being around 33%.
Macedo de Cavaleiros was one of the municipalities, in the district of Bragança, that changed color in these local elections. PSD candidate Sérgio Borges won the elections and prevented socialist Benjamim Rodrigues from serving a third term.

In today’s vote, 127 Lara voters (65.46%) voted for the PSD for the Monção Chamber and 57 (29.38%) voted for the PS.
