There’s only one episode left of The Summer I Turned Pretty and let me tell you, the people are panicking. And by the people, I mean myself and half of TikTok.
This season, the fan theories have gone far off the course of team Jeremiah or team Conrad, and are now trying to figure out how on earth it all ends. Whilst there have been side character relationship rumours and even pregnancy speculation, one theory has taken the cake on TikTok.
Conrad is the clear fan favourite this season out of the two brothers, and with the Team “Jellybean” wedding called off and the brothers relationship finally resolved in this week’s episode, it seems like viewers will get the ending they want. However some fans are speculating that Conrad might not make it to his happy ending.

Yep, there are multiple rumours swirling online that Conrad Fisher is going to die by the end of the series, and that hints have been there all season long. It might be hard to believe, especially for those day one Conrad stans, but people have taken to TikTok to share why they think this could be the sad and rather morbid direction of the show.
One user thought the letter seen in the episode eight trailer was a possible hint. They wrote: “Hear me out, what if Conrad gets sick, what if he writes Belly a letter because he knows his time is limited…Jenny Han did say the show would end differently.” It doesn’t matter how small the hint, the viewers are flapping and the theories are wild.
There’s a theory he has a terminal illness
The main theory is that Conrad will succumb to some type of terminal illness, with fans sayings its been foreshadowed all season long. The boy could not stop injuring himself, and in multiple episodes was complaining about pain in his arms and hands. There was always a reason for the pain, like housework, homework, that weird scene where the groomsmen are learning some kind of choreographed dance, but viewers see Jenny Han as some kind of mastermind.
There’s talk of it being cancer, and sadly following a similar timeline to his mothers character, or perhaps heart disease that see’s Conrad dying. In a scene from episode six, Conrad complains to his dad that he should be careful about what he’s eating because heart disease runs in their family.
Instead of thinking maybe Conrad is concerned because its his dad and also the boy is studying to become a doctor, the internet is basically already in mourning.
Lola Tung was emotional about the storyline
One of the reasons why fans believe the theory to be true is because, Lola Tung, playing Belly, was upset when reading the storyline of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The show’s creator, Jenny Han, did tease a less than satisfactory ending to the series.
In an interview with People she revealed that things “might not always happen in the way that you’re expecting”. And, in a separate interview with NPR said: “I like a hopeful ending, I don’t like too neat of an ending.”
This sent shockwaves through the community and after all the backlash from the filler allegations of episode eight (after stating that there were “no filler episodes this season”), the fans are scared for what Jenny is planning for the grand finale. Could a “hopeful ending” mean a Conrad and Belly wedding, or Belly living her best life in Paris after Conrad passes away?

Welp, the comment sections are having a meltdown and some have even taken it to the next level. One TikTok user, I suppose in a way to prepare the fanbase, made their own edit of what could be Conrad’s funeral.
Using clips of Susannah’s funeral service from season two and a Belly voice over that appears to be AI generated, it depicts what some think could be the final scene of the show. Some got slightly confused, believing it for a second, writing “WHAT!!” and asking “Whats happening”. One person even said: “What if we just change that to Jeremiah”. People really hate that man.
This weeks penultimate episode gave little nods to the Conrad dies theory but also didn’t give fans lots to work with as to what the ending will actually be. I suppose lets just hope that we get the finale we deserve next Wednesday, because these morbid theories are not your look Connie baby.
