The Syrian Defense Minister visits Moscow and holds talks with his Russian counterpart news

The Russian Defense Ministry said – today, Tuesday – that Minister Andrei Belousov held talks with his Syrian counterpart, Murhaf Abu Qasra, in Moscow, noting that the two sides discussed “the practical application of promising areas of bilateral cooperation.”

In turn, the Media Department of the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that the Minister of Defense, Major General Engineer Murhaf Abu Qasra, and his accompanying delegation met his Russian counterpart, Andrei Belousov, in the Russian capital, Moscow, and during the meeting, a number of common military issues were discussed in a way that serves the interests of the two countries.

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa visited Moscow in mid-October and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and pledged to adhere to all agreements previously signed between the two countries.

During the meeting between the two presidents, Putin said that cooperation between Russia and Syria would bring good results to the two countries, stressing that relations between Moscow and Damascus have been strong for more than 80 years.

Moscow was a major supporter of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad throughout his rule, which lasted a quarter of a century. It intervened with its forces on his behalf starting in 2015, and contributed, especially through air strikes, to turning the tide in his favor on several fronts in the field, to which he fled after the rebels entered the capital, Damascus, on December 8 of last year.
