Mexico City, October 31 (However).- The Upper Room of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) yesterday annulled, by a majority of three votes to two, the fines that the National Electoral Institute (INE) had imposed on various candidates of the judicial election —among them, aspiring ministers— for appearing in the so-called “accordions”.
With this resolution, the Tribunal terminated the sanctioning process of the electoral bodywhich amounted to just over six million pesos distributed between 188 applications. Las fines had been calculated based on the limits of campaign spending and the economic capacity of each participant.
The INE argued that the names of the candidates appeared on printed or digital lists disseminated during the unprecedented contest on June 1, which is why it considered it to be improper propaganda.

After more than a month of postponing the discussion, the president of the Court, Mónica Soto Fregoso, together with judges Felipe Fuentes Barrera and Felipe de la Mata Pizaña, formed the majority that revoked the sanctions.
For her part, Judge Janine Otálora—who yesterday concluded her assignment at the TEPJF—held a contrary position, proposing that the INE carry out a more in-depth investigation into the possible benefit that the accordions could have generated for the candidates. His proposal was supported by Judge Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón.
