Taylor Swift broke the internet yesterday by announcing her engagement to long-term boyfriend Travis Kelce through Instagram. The post had one million likes within 20 minutes and is already Taylor’s most liked post by far. The general reaction from Swifties to Taylor’s engagement announcement has been positive.
But for some, this isn’t good news. Here are all the people who aren’t too pleased about Travis and Taylor’s engagement.
The Gaylors are not okay

There’s a fraction of Taylor Swift’s massive fandom that believe she might be part of the LGBTQ+ community. Taylor has said that she’s not, but is an ally. This isn’t stopping some people from speculating on the sexuality of the mega pop star.
After the announcement of Travis and Taylor’s engagement, Gaylors were split. A lot of them took to Reddit to share their congratulations for her, while some were heartbroken.
“A recession indicator is Taylor getting into a lavender marriage,” one X user said.
“I’m disgusted. For so many reasons,” said another.
Many of the tweets mentioned Karlie Kloss, Taylor Swift’s ex-best friend. Some Gaylors believe that their friendship was a front for a secret relationship, despite Taylor denying this.
“Has anybody checked if Karlie Kloss is okay?” one Swiftie wrote on X.
“Are we in another universe? I need to jump back to the one where Taylor Swift is married to Karlie Kloss,” another said.
Karlie has liked Taylor’s engagement announcement on Instagram, but hasn’t acknowledged it outside of this.
Some Swifties think it’s for publicity

Taylor Swift is widely criticised for her publicity stunts – even within her own fanbase. Some sceptical Swifties believe her engagement with Travis is just another money-making plan and part of the PR for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl.
“Engagement variant dropping tomorrow,” one Reddit user joked, referring to Taylor’s criticism for releasing loads of alternate vinyls.
“This being a publicity relationship… 
,” said one conflicted Swiftie. “I hope they’re happy together.”
The engagement announcement comes just over a month before her highly anticipated album is released.
And some Swifties think Taylor could do way better
A lot of Taylor’s music revolves around her relationships, so some people feel they have a good grasp on her love life. Travis Kelce has been a bit of a controversial boyfriend to some people who think he’s beneath her. This engagement announcement only rang more alarms.
“Good for them I guess. I’m not a fan of him but it’s not my life,” said one Reddit user under a thread announcing the engagement.
“This is going to sound so mean-spirited of me, (and if she genuinely is happy, that’s all that matters) but her super public relationship with Travis always came across as forced and “I won the break-up, see?” after her and Joe split at the start of the Eras Tour. Just so much about Travis feels like a downgrade for her,” said another Swiftie.
Taylor’s six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn was much more private than her two-year relationship with Travis, and some Swifties think her openness is out of character.
