The Traitors just made history with a new viewership high as two fibbers stayed strong in their pact to the very end, but the BBC show is already planning its next steps.

These aren’t just another series of the Celebrity spin-off and a fifth of the civilian version, but an upcoming West End adaptation slated for 2027.

The Traitors On Stage is currently being produced by the TV show team behind the murder mystery juggernaut, Studio Lambert, and theatrical outfit Neal Street Productions.

The London production is being penned by John Finnemore, who has worked on the Good Omens adaptation for Amazon Prime Video, and will be directed by Olivier Award-winner Robert Hastie, who helmed the hugely popular Operation Mincemeat on the West End.

An announcement clip sees hooded figures depart the Scottish castle to head south on the motorway, arriving in theatre-land for a ‘new mission’.

Stephen Lambert, CEO of the production company behind The Traitors, as well as Squid Game: The Challenge, described the announcement as a ‘hugely exciting next step’ for the show.

Meanwhile, the cofounder of Neal Street Productions, Caro Newling, said the production will ‘bring a bold, structural twist to the format that only the live medium can provide’. Tantalising. We’ll have to wait for more details on how exactly the show’s game of wink murder will be recreated for a stage audience.

The announcement comes after the traitorous two Rachel and Stephen banished and murdered their way to a 50/50 split of the £95,750 prize pot in Friday night’s series four finale.

‘Two Traitors who were totally faithful to each other,’ an emotional Claudia Winkleman declared at the close of the thrilling and wholly unpredictable last episode.

The turret Bonnie and Clyde successfully split the vote at the last, banishing Faithfuls Faraaz and Jack, who then both realised they had been up against a pair of Traitors in concert while speaking in their post-match interview.

The show’s growing popularity from one series to the next has continued apace, with a record-high live audience for the finale of 9.4million, peaking with 9.6m.

The viewership did not quite conquer The Celebrity Traitors’ final late last year, which bowed out with 11m viewers.

The Traitors On Stage theatrical adaptation will arrive in 2027.
