The Turkish Parliament approved the extension of sending military forces outside the country for an additional 3 years, starting from October 30, during a session held on Tuesday to discuss a presidential memorandum in this regard.
According to the Turkish Anatolia Agency, this step aims to “eliminate potential attacks against the country by terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria.”
The presidential memorandum, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, noted that “the continuing terrorist threat in the areas adjacent to Turkey’s southern land borders and the lack of permanent stability continue to pose dangers and threats to national security.”
At the same time, the memorandum stressed “Türkiye’s commitment to preserving Iraq’s territorial integrity, national unity and stability.”
The memorandum also stated: “In line with the aspirations and needs of the current Syrian administration and the need to develop the country’s capabilities in combating terrorism and supporting international and national efforts, the need to take the necessary measures against all dangers, threats and actions that may endanger Turkish national security was emphasized, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening efforts aimed at establishing stability in Syria.”
