The US and Chinese presidents are seeking an agreement to end the trade war news

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping ended their meeting today, Thursday, in South Korea, after talks that Trump said went “wonderfully” and in which many decisions were made.

The meeting between the two parties in the city of Busan lasted about an hour and 40 minutes, after which Trump headed directly to the presidential plane to leave.

Trump said, “On a scale of 1 to 10, the meeting with Xi was a 12,” and revealed that soybean purchases “will begin immediately.” He also confirmed that he would work with the Chinese President on Ukraine to reach something, denying that the Taiwan issue was touched upon in the meeting.

The Chinese President told his American counterpart, Donald Trump, during their meeting that although their two countries do not always agree on views, they must strive to be “partners and friends.”

In turn, Trump announced that he expects a successful meeting with Xi, whom he described as a “strong negotiator,” adding that the relationship between the two countries will be great for a long time.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders since 2019, when Trump met his Chinese counterpart during his first term in the Japanese city of Osaka on the sidelines of the G20 summit.

Today, the two leaders met on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in South Korea.

Basic compatibility

Chinese President Xi told Trump that trade negotiators for the world’s two largest economies had reached “basic consensus on an agreement between the two countries.”

Xi also said that China’s development does not conflict with Trump’s vision of “Make America Great Again,” Xinhua News Agency quoted Xi as saying.

He added, “China and the United States can jointly bear responsibility as two great powers, and work together to accomplish more great and tangible things for the benefit of our two countries and the world.”

Xi praised Trump’s role in ending the Israeli war on Gaza, expressing his “pleasure to meet him again” before the talks that are expected to result in a truce in the trade war between China and the United States.

Last Sunday, Trump began an Asian tour from Malaysia that also includes Japan and South Korea, in his first visit to the region since he took office last January.
