The US judiciary once again suspended the deployment of National Guard forces in Portland and Chicago, in what was described as another setback for President Donald Trump in his confrontation with cities and states affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Under the decision issued by the US Supreme Court on Wednesday, the deployment of the National Guard in Portland was suspended indefinitely, while the court – of which conservatives constitute a majority of its members – ordered the parties to the case in Chicago to present additional arguments by next November 17.
At the same time, the Department of Justice revealed that members of the National Guard were sent to Portland, Oregon, for a short period this month, despite a previous court ruling prohibiting this mission.
The judiciary previously suspended the deployment of hundreds of National Guard soldiers in Chicago, Illinois, this month, at the request of the city’s mayor and state governor JB Pritzker, who is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
Since June, the Republican president has deployed National Guard forces in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Memphis, despite the opposition of their local authorities affiliated with Democrats.
Trump places combating irregular immigration at the heart of his presidential priorities, repeatedly denouncing the “invasion” of the United States by “criminals coming from abroad.”
