The video behind the ’56 year old woman’ meme has finally surfaced and I’m shook

One of my favourite things ever is when a still image meme that has lived in my ether for such a long time suddenly gets a new lease of life and more context. This happened recently with me when I was part of the collective internet realisation that the picture of the girls giving a dirty look at a party wasn’t a stock image. Same with how we all collectively realised the smirky guy meme wasn’t Zack Galifianakis. Well, the latest is the absolute classic of “So there’s this 56 year old woman here” with the older lady looking shifty at what seems to be a house party. I always assumed this was a static image – but now the video has gone viral again showing a bit more context to the 56 year old woman meme.

The classic

The original meme is a Snapchat of a woman perched on a bed with a drink with the now caption of legendary status: “Okay so there’s a 56 year old woman here.” It always gets used for things to do with pop culture, like when Laura Dern was in a Taylor Swift music video. Or when someone said “everyone’s doing me at 21 Instagram stories”. Basically, whenever there’s an outlying older person in a younger crowd or when you feel old and haggard.

It’s actually from a Snapchat video

The video is from 2021, and everyone on Twitter is shaking seeing more insight into the pic that has become such a legendary meme. The 56 year old woman meme is a Snapchat video, not a still pic, and shows some lads asking “Who the f*ck do you know here”, “Who are you?” and then saying “call the cops.” The woman never speaks and just looks on.

The video itself still has its context and origins shrouded in mystery. We never find out what the woman was actually doing. I need answers. I need her side of the story!
