Mexico City. – According to information from the Local Women’s Secretariat (Semujeres CDMX) that heads Dapthne Cuevasthe number of aggressors who are sentenced for the crime of feminicideis less than the total number of victims in Mexico City, which in the latest figures in the capital, the previous year there was an increase in violence against women.
In the annual reports of Alert for Violence against Women of the Sewomenindicates that in 2023 there were a total of 40 aggressors with convictions for femicides. The figures from the last six-year term indicate that in 2022 there were 43, which represented an increase compared to 2021 when 21 aggressors were sentenced. Likewise, it points out that the average conviction sentence went from 38.3 to 61.5 years in prison. However, this record of convictions was stopped by the Secretariat in 2024 and only recorded as progress against this type of violence, people accused of feminicide, which the previous year was 58.
The justice figures against victims of feminicide are not equal in the number of cases, since in 2023 while 43 aggressors were sentenced, there were 59 cases in Mexico City, according to reports from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP). The previous year, there was an increase in cases of feminicide, since 68 were registered in the capital.
This phenomenon, where justice does not reach the number of victims, was alerted in 2021 by the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women (Conavim), which estimated that at the national level only 20 percent of femicideshave convictions, which reveals an alarming level of impunity.
According to the annual reports, both in 2024, the municipalities that had the most cases of femicides They were Cuauhtémoc with 10 and Iztapalapa with 15. Until the month of September 2025, there is a record of 26 cases, where the mayoralties that have the most incidents are Tláhuac and Álvaro Obregón, one with four.
