Every detail of Unknown Number: The High School Catfish on Netflix has got people talking. Whether that be the big reveal of who the catfisher was, the grossness of the texts, or the countless things the documentary missed out that make the story even more shocking.
But, there’s one thing only a few people have noticed. And those who have picked up on it are a little bit stressed. The documentary film told the story of a then 13-year-old Lauryn Licari. She had been receiving a barrage of messages from an unknown number.
The texts were often nasty about her looks, became threatening, and even told her to take her own life. There were highly sexualised messages about her boyfriend Owen, who was also underage at the time. In the twist nobody saw coming, the messages had been sent by Lauryn’s own mother – Kendra Licari.
When we learned this in the film, there was a scene taken at the family home. A lot of people have been taken aback by the “distant” reaction Lauyrn had when she was told it was her mother all along, but others have been distracted by one huge factor. The lounge.

Barstool Sports brought it up. The publication said: “Listen there are 10,000 elements of this doc that are just batsh*t crazy. The twist of who is guilty…just an INSANE watch. Truthfully insane. But the one thing no one is talking about is the layout of this family’s living room.”
Now it’s been pointed out, I can’t un-see it. The sofa is under the TV? The chairs don’t face towards it at all? Are we cranking our necks all night just to watch Netflix? How does this work? On Twitter, someone else added: “Who has a speaker set up from 1987 still functioning?”.
This documentary left me with no answers, just so many more questions.
