Why We Love This Deal
There are plenty of good places to find sneakers on sale. Walmart, for example, is like a Skechers haven—you can find most pairs for around $40. You’ll also find pretty good deals at Foot Locker, Zappos, and Nordstrom Rack. But few retailers have sales like the ones at Dick’s Sporting Goods. They often fly under the radar and are steeper than you might expect. This pair of Vans is a perfect example: It’s one of the brand’s best-known styles, and right now, it’s on sale for just $28.
Select Vans Old Skools are up to 60% off at Dick’s right now. The best price is on the Check Gray/Marshmallow colorway, which has a muted checkerboard style, and most of the key sizes are still available. There’s also a brown pair on sale for $45 and a lilac pair, though it seems like it only comes in women’s sizes.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From 8 to 13
- Upper: Suede and canvas
- Outsole: Waffle-patterned rubber
- Best Use Case: This is a casual sneaker that can fit in at any casual venue, but will also carry special weight at a ska concert or skate park.
The shape of the Old Skool carries a lot of the same inspiration that went into the Vans Authentic and the Vans Era, albeit with a slightly higher cut. That is to say, this is (still) a low-top, lace-up shoe, perhaps with a bit more room for the midfoot to stretch. And then there’s the eternally cool rubber waffle sole that keeps the bottoms flat and quiet while also providing adequate grip for basic surfaces, including a skate deck.
Stylistically, the light-gray on marshmallow white checkerboard pattern is subdued enough to confidently wear anywhere without subtracting from that tried-and-true skate shoe aesthetic.

What Shoppers Are Saying
Shoppers typically mention the high quality and level of comfort of the shoes, but also point to how classic these shoes are. Many are long-term devotees of the brand, with one such buyer saying the shoes “look and feel great as usual.”
Another shopper said, “When I’m not rocking my Nikes and need something a bit more casual and old school flavor, Vans delivers!”
The Vans Old Skool Shoes are now just $28, a killer deal for a shoe that, if you’re a Vans fan, you probably already know the feel of. Scoop up a pair for yourself before they sell out.
