These Johannesburg areas will face a 10-hour water interruption – Bundlezy

These Johannesburg areas will face a 10-hour water interruption

Newlands, Albertville, Montgomery Park, and Albertskroon residents will experience water interruptions on Thursday, 3 July, due to planned infrastructure upgrades. Johannesburg Water has confirmed the interruption will last from 8:00 to 18:00 and affect various streets in the listed suburbs.

The shutdown will allow technicians to connect a new pressure-reducing valve (PRV) system to improve long-term water service.

“Customers may experience low pressure to no water,” said Johannesburg Water in a notice.

The utility added that the upgrade would result in “improved service delivery and continuity of water supply.”

Wider Regional Maintenance by Rand Water

Meanwhile, Rand Water has scheduled ongoing maintenance from Monday to Wednesday next week, impacting parts of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane. The work includes pipe repairs at the Eikenhof system and a valve replacement at the Zwartkopjes system, both critical components of Gauteng’s water infrastructure.

Spokesperson Makenosi Maroo confirmed that pumping capacity will be reduced at several systems during this period.

“The organisation is pleased to announce the significant progress achieved thus far, including the successful connection of the newly constructed B16 pipeline,” Maroo said.

The new pipeline will distribute water from Station 5A at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, part of a larger effort to expand supply and meet growing regional demand.

Efforts Aim to Stabilise Supply

Rand Water began this round of maintenance in May, focusing on creating a sustainable and efficient water supply. The current phase is set to conclude by 18 July.

Although residents may face intermittent supply or low pressure, both Johannesburg Water and Rand Water have assured the public that these efforts will help prevent unplanned outages in the future.
