Why We Love This Deal

Trail runs in the fall are a sure way to immerse yourself in some of the most breathtaking scenery, but the whole experience sours with subpar off-road running shoes. Luckily, many retailers are clearing out summer gear like trail running shoes, though they’re perfectly useful all year, and that includes this pair of Hoka trail shoes that are now just north of $100.

You can score the Hoka Torrent 4 Trail Running Shoes for just $105 right now, thanks to the typical 19% discount we usually see with Hoka shoes’ first markdowns at REI. This shoe (in this colorway) has already completely sold out over at Hoka, so if you want one, get it now.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Colors: Honey/Antique Olive
  • Size: 8 to 13
  • Type: Trail running
  • Heel-to-Toe Drop: 5mm

Listening to feedback from its customer base, this version of the Torrents is lighter, bouncier, yet somehow, even more stable than its predecessor. This is achieved by reducing the upper to a more refined mesh for an even airier fit that conforms to your foot (the lay flat tongue definitely helps out with additional comfort), while also making it lighter.

This model also features an early-stage MetaRocker, which means the curve sits further toward the heel, helping for an even smoother transition from heel to toe. While that may not be an absolute must on the open trails, its 5mm thick lugged soles definitely are, as it provides excellent traction on all surfaces, from rocks to dirt.

It’s relatively lightweight at only 9.8 ounces, is available in sizes from 8 to 13, and comes in two colorways: Honey/Antique Olive, and Stormy Skies/Cerise, with the latter only having size 8 left.

What Shoppers Are Saying

REI reviews are mixed, but the two negative remarks you’ll see are primarily focused on performance after six months of use.

Those who liked these shoes, however, found them to hold up so well, they championed readers to buy two or three pairs. One said, “The Torrent 4 represents my long-sought fever dream come true: stability of the Stinson with the agility and traction of the Speedgoat. It’s perfect for the rough and rugged PHX Mountain Park trails.”

Make sure you add these trail shoes to your cart soon. Since they’ve already sold through at Hoka, we’re guessing REI will be next.
