They arrest seven men with weapons exclusively used by the Army in Baja California

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that this Saturday the arrest of seven men with weapons for exclusive use of the Army who were traveling in a truck with license plates from California (United States) was achieved during an operation in Baja California.

The agency explained in a statement that The events occurred in the municipality of Tijuana, where security agents identified a van with California plates, with five crew members and two more people on foot, who showed an “evasive” attitude when approaching them.

“During the vehicle and belongings search, five long weapons and two short weapons were located, which is why the seven people were arrested,” the note noted.

The SSPC pointed out that the seized weapons are for the exclusive use of the Army.

Agents from the SSPC, the National Defense (Defense), the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN) and the State Citizen Security Force of Baja California participated in the action.

Mexico has secured 17,200 firearms in the country, since October 2024, when the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum began, until August of this year, as reported by the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, on October 7.

In that period, more than 34,000 people were also arrested for high-impact crimes and more than 283 tons of drugs were confiscated, including more than 3.5 million fentanyl pills.

Mexico has responded to pressure from the United States to improve security and stop fentanyl trafficking, with the launch last February of Operation Northern Border, agreed with the US to avoid widespread 25% tariffs.

But the Sheinbaum Government has maintained that a large part of the weapons used in Mexican territory enter the country from the United States.
