After the complaint of alleged mob rape within the facilities of the Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP)which occurred last October 17, the governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona confirmed the first arrest.

He added that the other three alleged suspects involved are fully identified. This case triggered a wave of indignation and protests throughout the student community. One student stated that She was sexually abused in the offices of the Law Department and in the faculty bathrooms.at 4:00 p.m., by four individuals – three students and a person outside the institution – after being drugged.
“I thank the Prosecutor’s Office for acting quickly and with determination. Our commitment as a Government is clear: full support for the complainant, his or her family and our entire university community. They are not alone. In San Luis Potosí: zero tolerance for gender violence,” he expressed.
The case, which was announced last Monday, caused a massive mobilization of students from different faculties. Those who demanded justice and the departure of the rector Alejandro Javier Zermeño Guerraafter reporting omissions in the handling of the incident and in the application of victim care protocols.
Until this Wednesday, the central building of the UASLP continues to be taken by groups of students. This while the university has denounced the presence of people outside the community in the protests.

The state prosecutor’s office reported that the investigations continue and that in the next few hours more arrest warrants could be executed against the other alleged suspects, who have already been fully identified. A mob or gang rape is when two or more individuals commit this crime.
