PARIS, France.- This Sunday, the Prosecutor’s Office of the French Republic confirmed the two arrests related to the jewel robbery at the Louvre Museum on October 19, but regretted its “hasty” disclosure for being potentially harmful to the investigations.
“I deeply regret the hasty disclosure of this element by informed people, without any consideration for the investigation,” the prosecutor conveyed. Laure Beccuau in a statement.
“This revelation can only harm the investigative efforts of the hundreds of investigators mobilized, both in the search for the stolen jewels and all the criminals. It is too early to give more details in this regard,” he added.
Beccuau explained that he will communicate additional information at the end of the provisional detention phase of the two suspects.
Shortly afterwards, the French Minister of the Interior also spoke about these advances, Laurent Nuñezwho expressed his congratulations to the researchers for having worked “without rest” as he asked them, in addition to reiterating that they have his full “trust.”

The arrests occurred this Saturday and the two men remain in police custody, according to the magazine Paris Match and the newspaper Le Parisien, information that was also later confirmed by other local media.

The first arrest occurred at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airportaround 10:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m. GMT), when the suspect in question was trying to leave France presumably heading to Algeria.
That same night the other arrest occurred, of which fewer details were leaked, in Seine-Saint-Denison the outskirts of Paris.
This operation was carried out by the Crime Suppression Brigade organized by Paris (BRB, for its acronym in French) and the Central Office to Combat Trafficking in Cultural Property (OCBC).
The two captured were transferred to the BRB facilities at the headquarters of the Parisian judicial police (in the 17th arrondissement of the capital) and their provisional detention can last up to 96 hours.
Both men, in their 30s, were on the police radar for a history of robberies, he said. The Parisianand they were supposedly part of the four-person commando that carried out the theft of the jewels from the Apollo Gallery of the most visited museum in the world.
Within the framework of the Louvre investigation, they would be accused of crimes of robbery in an organized gang and illicit association for criminal purposes.
