The federal official detailed “the dismantling of a laboratory for the production of methamphetamines” and the seizure of “more than a thousand liters of precursors and more than 100 kilograms of chemical precursors.”

Later, in a statementthe SSPC reported that events were recorded during reconnaissance, security and surveillance tours in the municipality of Tijuana, where agents observed a van with California (US) license plates, with five crew members and two more people on foot.

“When they were stopped, they adopted an evasive attitude, so to rule out any illegal activity, a security inspection was carried out. During the vehicle and belongings inspection, five long weapons and two short weapons were located, which is why the seven people were arrested,” the agency explained.

The detainees were informed of their legal rights and together with what was secured they were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will determine their legal situation.

In addition, three search warrants were executed in properties located in the municipality of Tecate, where a laboratory for the production of methamphetamines was dismantled, more than 1,000 liters and 100 kilos of precursors for the manufacture of synthetic drugs, as well as drugs and weapons, were seized.

Just in March, an armed attack on the Tecate-Mexicali free highway left two dead and a minor injured. The victims were chased and shot after their vehicle overturned. They were the mother and brother of Ismael Gómez Sierra, alias “El Chiquilín”, former agent and alleged former head of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in Tecate.

The events occurred at kilometer 111 of the road. According to witnesses, armed individuals, in a truck and a pickup truck, followed the victims, who were traveling in a black Chevrolet Equinox. During the chase, the vehicle overturned, and the attackers got out to shoot with long weapons.

The deceased were identified as María Antonia Gómez Sierra and Juan Carlos Gómez Sierra. Also in the car was a 17-year-old girl, daughter of Juan Carlos, who received several gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital.

Ismael Gómez Sierra, known as “El Chiquilín”, was found dead in his cell on January 2 at the El Hongo Social Reintegration Center. His body was hanging with a sheet, and the Prosecutor’s Office has not determined whether it was a suicide or a homicide.

Also in March, three people, alleged members of the Pacific Cartel, were arrested in Tecate, Baja California, while transporting 42 kilograms of fentanyl and seven kilograms of heroin in a vehicle. The seized drugs would have an approximate value of more than 300 million pesos.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported through his social networks that the detainees were members of the Pacific Cartel.

“In a Defense and GN action in the municipality of Tecate, Baja California, three people were arrested who were transporting 42 kg of fentanyl and seven more of heroin in a vehicle; it was identified that they were members of a criminal group that operates in the Pacific area. The cost of the drugs is approximately more than 300 million pesos,” García Harfuch published on his X account.

The arrest was carried out in a joint action by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense) and the National Guard (GN), as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and violence in the region.
