PROGRESO, Yucatan. — This morning in the port of Progresowas found lifeless body of a manpresumably homeless, outside a home located on 31st Street, 60th and 60th-A, in front of the “La Termoelectrica” sports field.
The discovery occurred in the early hours of the day, when neighbors in the area noticed the presence of the motionless man, lying in front of the door of a house. When they approached to check his condition, they realized that he was not responding, so they immediately alerted the authorities.
Elements of the Municipal Police and the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) went to the scene, along with paramedics, who after carrying out an assessment confirmed that the individual no longer had vital signs.
According to the testimonies collected, the man was usually seen wandering around the area, although his identity has not been confirmed nor if he had relatives in the municipality. Some neighbors mentioned that the house in front of which he was found could be uninhabited, which reinforces the version that the individual could have sought refuge in the place during the night.
The area was cordoned off while waiting for the arrival of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) personnel, in charge of removing the body and transporting it for the corresponding autopsy, in order to determine the precise causes of death.
So far, the authorities have not provided official information about the identity of the deceased or the possibility that the case is related to any situation of violence. Everything points, according to the first investigations, to a possible death due to natural causes, although the autopsy will confirm this version.
The event generated consternation among the residents of the sector, who mourned the man’s death and highlighted the need to reinforce care and support for people in vulnerable situations who, like him, usually spend the night on the streets of the port.
