They re-release ‘The Alley of Miracles’ for its 30th anniversary

For its part, Tiaré Scanda contrasted the re-release of the 1995 film with the cinema produced today. “Now that there is little relevant cinema, this proposal can make the new generations see the Mexican cinema that they want to represent them, the one that is made with actors, not the one that highlights an influencer who may be good people, but in the end is not an actor,” he declared.

“It has been 30 wonderful years. There is great love for this film“, both from the people and from those of us who are part of it,” commented producer Daniel Birman Ripstein and explained that the restoration process took four years and coincided with the film’s anniversary, thanks to the support of Sony Pictures. “We wanted to return this story to the public in the best possible quality,” he added.

The film, inspired by the novel of the same name by Naguib Mahfouz and adapted by Vicente Leñero, portrays the lives of the inhabitants of a neighborhood in the Historic Center, where the stories of love, betrayal, desire and hope of endearing characters intersect.

“It is a perfect film, a work that accurately reflects Mexican society. Jorge Fons loved actors and it shows in every scene,” said María Rojo, who played Doña Susanita.

To Margarita Sanzthe reunion with his companions meant remember Fons’s meticulous direction. “It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Everything was thought out, from the gestures to the false teeth that we made with a dental technician for my character. Fons accompanied us in every detail and that made the difference,” he recalled. For her part, composer Lucía Álvarez recalled that all the music in the feature film is original and was created especially for the film. “It was a huge challenge to tackle so many genres and do it with credibility. I am proud to say that there is not a single recycled fragment. Everything was made from scratch and with love for cinema”, he commented.

The revival, in addition to paying tribute to Jorge Fons, Vicente Leñero and Ernesto Gómez Cruz, reaffirms the place of El Callejón de los Milagros as an essential work of Mexican cinema, one that combines technical rigor, narrative depth and a human portrait of the country. “This movie changed all of our careers,” said Bernal, “and now it happens again when we see it on the big screen again.”

The Alley of Miracles returns to theaters in its restored 4K version starting October 30.
