A few hours before the traditional celebration of October 28, when thousands of faithful celebrated San Judas Tadeo, Two men were caught on security cameras stealing a figure of said saint in the streets of Iztapalapa, Mexico City.
In the video spread on social networks, two motorcyclists are seen stopping in front of a house that had an altar dedicated to the “saint of impossible causes.” One of them descends, takes the image and both escape on the motorcycle, taking the figure on the eve of the celebration.
The theft occurred on the night of October 27, just when the devotees were preparing to go to the temple of San Hipólito or set up altars at home to thank favors and ask for new miracles.
Every October 28, thousands of believers come dressed in green and white robes, carrying candles, flowers and offerings.
In addition to the fervor in the capital, the largest sculpture dedicated to San Judas Tadeo stands out in Badiraguato, Sinaloa: a figure of almost 28 meters made of resin by the artist Fidel Chaídez, located in El Mirador park, where hundreds of pilgrims gather every year.
Who was Saint Jude Thaddeus?
The name “Judas” comes from Hebrew and can be translated as “praise God,” while “Thaddaeus” means “brave in faith.” According to tradition, Judas Thaddeus was Jesus’ cousin, as he shared a relationship with Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, the parents of the Virgin Mary.
Following the path of Christ, he became one of his twelve apostles. The nickname “Thaddaeus” was used to differentiate him from Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus.
Saint Jude Thaddeus is venerated as a miraculous saint because, according to the Catholic faith, he intercedes before God so that the prayers of his devotees are heard, regardless of the difficulty of their requests. Believers trust that he always responds to those who call on him with faith and devotion.
