This 007 Actor is Open to Returning to James Bond Franchise: “Why Not?”

All eyes are on who will be the next 007 spy in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Bond movie, with Pierce Brosnan giving his thoughts on a possible return. The actor spoke with Radio Times on reprising the role – but with a twist.

“I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat,” said the actor.

“Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?” he added.

Brosnan was one of the select few actors who have held the title of James Bond. He played the covert spy from 1995 until 2002, with his first role being in GoldenEye

By 2002, Brosnan exited the franchise with Die Another Day and was cemented as the fifth Bond actor before Daniel Craig took over in Casino Royale

The actor revealed he and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, have been keeping an eye on any news of who will be the next Bond

“I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who’s going to be the next James Bond,” said Brosnan. “There are many great candidates out there, and I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.”

The candidates in question have so far included Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinsonto name a few.

Before playing Bond in 1995, Brosnan was close to playing the character in the 1980s when Roger Moore retired after A View to Kill.

Brosnan was a frontrunner to play Bond after his success in the NBC series Remington Steele. Having gone through a screen test and impressing producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, Brosnan was tagged as the next Bond by the press.

Due to the media buzz surrounding Brosnan and his possible 007 role, NBC renewed Remington Steele despite its cancellation. Brosnan was contractually obligated to the series and turned down the Bond role. Remington Steele ran for a short while before it was cancelled again.

Pierce Brosnan currently stars in Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club.
