Well, well, the James Brand and Timex are back with a brand new collaboration—The Nocturne Edition—and for the third time they have absolutely nailed the EDC brief. Limited to 1,000 individually numbered pieces, the watch offers a stunning combination of rugged aesthetic charm and utilitarian capabilities. It’s also the pair’s first piece to ditch titanium construction in favor of stainless steel to give the watch a more traditional wrist feel.

The 41mm recycled, 304 stainless steel case is  sandblasted for an understated, matte finish. That grey hue allows the smoky, black, forged carbon fiber dial to shine, while the red GMT hand and matching zero on the bezel add a pop of color. The quartet of hands spin around applied, stick indexes all filled with Super-Luminova so you can still tell the time in darkness.

Both the see-through case back and crown screw down, helping the watch achieve 200 meters of water resistance. There is still a date window at 3 o’clock, but unlike the previous version, the Nocturne ditches the rotating external 24 hour bezel in favor of a unidirectional, 60 minute, dive scale for additional utility. Instead, the GMT uses a static, internal 24 hour reflector ring to track the second time zone.

Under the hood, a Miyota 9075 automatic movement allows you to set the local hour hand independently from the other hands or freezing the movement. So you can jump back and forth across time-zone changes as you fly.

The Nocturne Edition comes with both a self-adjustable three-link stainless-steel bracelet, as well as a two-piece fabric strap. Each is fitted with quick-release spring bars that require no tools, making swapping between the two easy peasy. Plus the 20mm lug width means there’s a wealth of after-market strap options for anyone who might prefer leather, rubber, or a NATO.

The James Brand × Timex Nocturne Edition is available for pre-order now at both thejamesbrand.com and timex.com for $749.
