This Versatile (and Cheap) Grocery Staple Gordon Ramsay Keeps in His Pantry Has Us Rushing to the Store to Buy

When Gordon Ramsay makes a recommendation, suggestion or comment, people listen. During a recent conversation with the celebrated chef, he shared the one ingredient that is always on his shopping list. After hearing the suggestion, it should be in everyone’s cart.

As many people have come to know, Ramsay is unafraid to share his opinion. It does not have to be a Hell’s Kitchen fiery quip. His sage advice from all his years of experience helps home cooks build confidence in the kitchen. His collaboration with Home Chef is a prime example. Each of the dishes not only offers a delicious meal, but they also highlight ingredients, flavors and cooking techniques.

Gordon Ramsay Always Buys This Ingredient.

Through his Home Chef partnership, I had the opportunity to speak with Gordon Ramsay. During the interview, he shared various insights on his favorite ingredients, cooking techniques and the one food trend wishes would disappear.

When asked what pantry staple or food item that is always on this shopping list, Ramsay was quick to answer. He said that it is chickpeas. The simple legume can be used in all types of recipes.

Ramsay said, “Recently, we have done amazing wonders with chickpea. It’s beautiful in a tomato gravy, vegetarian chickpea curry. We do that on Monday or Tuesday for the week.” The dish can be eaten on its own or paired with roasted chicken.

He continued to explain, “it’s a staple that is incredibly cheap and bloody delicious. We would also turn those chickpeas into a beautiful hummus for a dip at the weekend for snacks.”

While he also keeps spaghetti in the pantry, it is the humble chickpea that receives his praise. As many people have come to learn, it is always beneficial to listen to Chef Ramsay.

Gordon Ramsay Wants This Food Trend to Go Away.

While Ramsay always has chickpea in the pantry, there is one food trend that he wishes would go away. Although he is a fan of pickling, he is not a fan of one pan dinners. His dismissal of this popular, simple meal was quite blunt.

Ramsay said, “They are the most boring things ever. They throw all these ingredients in one tray. They throw them in the oven and they bring it back out. They’re like, look at this.”

Although the chef used some spirited descriptions in his dislike for one pan dinners, his point was more than the blandness of dish. The concept does not push cooks to hone their cooking techniques or understand building flavors.

While cooking with Ramsay’s Home Chef meals does not mean that home cooks should open their own restaurant, the recipes will build confidence in the kitchen. Hopefully, the process will have people skipping the single pan for a flavorful, texturally complex meal.
