Thomas Frank would love to have Harry Kane back at Tottenham, after a release clause in the Bayern Munich’s striker was revealed this week.

Kane has been sensational for the German giants since joining from Spurs in 2023.

The England captain has scored 98 goals in 103 games across all competitions, with 70 in 67 outings in the Bundesliga.

Now 32 years old, Kane still has two years to run on the contract he signed in 2023, with his current deal running until 2027.

However, German publication BILD report that there is a release clause in his contract which can be activated in the summer of 2026 worth £56.7m.

Spurs sold Kane to Bayern for £86m a couple of years ago, so would they be tempted to bring him back next year shortly before his 33rd birthday?

Frank, who took over as Tottenham boss over the summer, would love to have the prolific striker back in north London, but is not suggesting it is a likely scenario.

‘I didn’t know there was a clause,’ said the Spurs boss. ‘He is an unbelievable player who did fantastic for Spurs and is doing fantastic for Bayern. Top player. I think there’s a lot of Tottenham fans, including myself, who would like to see Kane back.

‘Personally, I don’t think he will do it right now if I’m honest. He’ll probably stay in Bayern and continue performing well. He was top scorer last year, won the championship and he’s doing fantastic now.

‘I don’t know what he’s thinking. Myself, I’m a traveller, I like to travel, I like to explore things as well. He’s been here for many years so why not enjoy the time at Bayern a little bit more? But he’s welcome. If he wants to join us, he’s more than welcome!’

The Sun report that Barcelona could move to sign Kane next summer as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who turned 37 in August.

The Polish forward is still going strong, scoring 42 goals last season, but is into the final year of his contract at Barcelona.

Kane’s release clause is only believed to be active if he informs Bayern Munich of his intention to leave before the end of January.

Tottenham also have ‘first refusal’ on signing their former star striker, but all of this will be irrelevant if Kane wants to stay at Bayern, where he has been a big hit.

On the prospect of a return to England, Kane told ESPN in April: ‘I’m not sure. I’ve said throughout my whole career, I’m not someone who likes to think too far ahead. I’m extremely happy here.

‘I think we have a fantastic team, fantastic coaching staff and I just feel like whilst I feel like I’m in the best condition, I want to play at the highest level possible, and this is as high as it gets,

‘So I know a lot can change in football in a short space of time and things can happen, but ultimately my focus is here. I’m not thinking about any other league or any other team. And with football, I like to just go the flow and at the moment the flow is here at Bayern Munich.’
