Three arrested in Augusta car break-in; gun, tools seized

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Friday night, approximately 11:00 p.m., Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to reports of several vehicles being broken into in the 1600 block of Goshen Road.

Deputies reviewed nearby surveillance footage showing multiple suspects attempting to break into vehicles.

More deputies immediately searched the surrounding area and located a gray Hyundai Elantra parked suspiciously nearby.

Upon investigation, deputies found three individuals, a male, female, and juvenile, inside the vehicle pretending to be asleep. All three were detained and later identified as the same suspects seen in the video footage.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a handgun and window punchers used to shatter car windows.

Two suspects were also connected to prior theft and burglary cases involving stolen electronics and clothing.

The suspects have been identified as:

• Jai’Quan Jenkins (17 years old) – Committed to CBWDC
• Kayla Miller (20 years old) – Committed to CBWDC
• A 15-year-old juvenile was committed to the RYDC

Friday was the second night in a row where multiple individuals have been arrested for breaking into vehicles, curfew violations, and other charges. As the holiday season approaches, past data shows a noticeable increase in entering auto incidents from late October through the beginning of the new year. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office urges all residents to take the following precautions.

Safety Reminder

• Remove all valuables from your vehicle or secure them in your trunk.
• Always lock your doors. Most vehicle broken into are unlocked.
• If you choose not to lock your vehicle, ensure all valuables are removed.
Never leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle unless it is secured inside a locked garage.
• If you see anyone pulling on door handles, breaking into vehicles, or loitering suspiciously call 911 immediately and provide as much detail as possible to help deputies respond quickly.
